"A Tale of Three Cemeteries - Or Is It Really Just Two?"
The following was identified on 23 July, 2011
There are three cemetery sites on FindAGrave.com for the same city with
similar names which can and has caused confusion for some users of those
cemetery sites.
- Saint Josephs Old Catholic Cemetery:
- The written physical location of the cemetery given is correct.
- The photograph of the front gate of the cemetery is correct.
- The Section Map of Grove Hill Cemetery which shows this separate
cemetery is correct.
- All of the memorials listed (12) are for persons in the actual
cemetery.
- The actual name used on internet mapping sites is "Saint Josephs
Cemetery."
(Find a Grave cemetery site name should be changed to Saint Josephs
Cemetery).
- Saint
Josephs Cemetery (also known as Calvary Cemetery)
- The written physical location of the cemetery given is in the correct
city, county and state only.
- The photograph of the front gate of the cemetery does NOT match the
Find a Grave cemetery site name and can be confusing. Other
photographs presented are of the same cemetery where the front gate
photograph comes from that does NOT match the Find a Grave cemetery site
name given and can add to the confusion.
- The map provided for the cemetery is actually the map that should be
used for the cemetery above, what has been called "Saint Josephs
Old Catholic Cemetery."
- It is unknown whether all the memorials listed (120) are for persons
who who are in the Saint Josephs Cemetery adjacent to Grove Hill
Cemetery or whether they should be listed in the Find A Grave cemetery
site called "Calvary Cemetery" described below.
- There are two names that internet mapping sites use for
what has become the three Find A Grave cemetery sites.
They are "Saint Josephs Cemetery" and "Calvary
Cemetery."
- Calvary
Cemetery (also known as Saint Josephs Calvary Cemetery)
- The written physical location of the cemetery given is in the correct
city, county and state only.
- The photograph of the front gate of the cemetery is correct.
- The map provided for the cemetery is correct.
- All of the memorials listed (490) are assumed to be for persons in the
actual cemetery and that none of them should be listed instead in the
Saint Josephs Cemetery adjacent to Grove Hill Cemetery.
- The actual name used on internet mapping sites is "Calvary
Cemetery."
- Recommendations:
- Move the pictures that are now on the Find A Grave "Saint Josephs
Cemetery" site to the Find A Grave "Calvary Cemetery"
site.
- Find out where each of the 120 memorials on the Find A Grave
"Saint Josephs Cemetery" site actually should be, in the Saint
Josephs Cemetery adjacent to Grove Hill Cemetery or in Calvary Cemetery.
- Once the 120 memorials are identified as to where they should go, move
the ones that should be in Calvary Cemetery and leave the ones that
should be in Saint Josephs Cemetery.
- Move the 12 memorials, the front gate photograph, and the Section Map
of Grove Hill cemetery from the Saint Josephs Old Catholic Cemetery Find
A Grave site to the Saint Josephs Cemetery Find A Grave site. This
is only suggested because it would probably be easier to move 12
memorials and a couple of graphic files managed by one person than it
would be to move a larger number of memorials that are managed by many
people.
