The Schaeffers

Dr. Schaeffer is standing between the couple on the left. Edith Schaeffer is standing to the right of the couple on the right. This is on a Sunday, in the Summer of 1978, just after church, not too much after Farel House was reopened from being partially burned. The lower white-colored part of Farel House that you see is where you enter the Study Center. This is where you listen to tapes, read books, and basically study half a day.

Farel House is not only used for church services on Sunday but for group discussion times and lectures during the week.

In the 1978 time frame it was in this large upper area on Saturday nights that Dr. Schaeffer would sit down next to the fireplace. He would say a short prayer, take a drink from a nearby water glass, and then very simply say, "Okay, what are your questions?" And he would answer any and all questions on just about any subject. Udo Middelmann, his son-in-law, would do the same thing in Dr. Schaeffer's absence. It constantly amazed me the wealth of knowledge these two men had and how they expressed themselves quite extemporaneously for hours on end.

This is not to say that the other L'Abri workers were not talented also. On the contrary, they each had their own special gift that touched and shaped lives in marvelous ways. The workers that are there even now also have special talents and are being used of the Lord in a very special way. Some who have been there from the beginning are still there, teaching the world about Christ, one person at a time.
