Chalet Bethany Family

This is part of the Chalet Bethany family that was there when I was a student in 1978. I'm the one in the middle in the back. I drove into Huemoz on my bright red 1976 Yamaha 400 motorcycle on my 30th birthday, May 4th, 1978. I stayed for a month and then would come back on long weekends from where I was stationed in the U.S. Army in (then) West Germany.

The man to the left is Marcus Bruce of Maine. The lady to the right is Patty Anne Lane of Texas. The first lady at front left is Johanna Reinhardt of New Jersey. The next young man I'll have to find his name in my L'Abri journal. The next three are Sandy and Kurt Lovelace with baby Jenna. Last but not least is Tone Espeland (pronounced "Tona"). She is from Norway.

Kurt and Sandy were the leaders of Chalet Bethany. Before they came to L'Abri I think Sandy had been an English teacher and Kurt a History teacher. There are many stories to tell but that will come later.

Nowadays students pretty much all stay in Chalet Bellevue, which in 1978 was a home for handicapped children. If you would please, read more about the differences between then and now in Chapter 4 of the Thesis on this website entitled Transferrable Concepts From L'Abri.
